The Volatility Framework contains tools you can use in digital forensics. These tools read digital artifacts in a computer's random access memory. The program is open source and free. However, launching Volatility requires that you first have Python installed on your computer. Python is a programming language that is also open source and free. You do not need to know any programming to use Volatility with Python. You just need the programming language on your computer.

2Download and install the latest version of Python.
3Click the Windows "Start" menu.
4Type "Run," then select the "Run" application from the "Programs" list.
5Type "python volatility." Press "OK."
